The correct colors, style, and fabrics you select greatly affects your professional photos whether you realize it or not. Follow our suggestions for a great session with us ...
CASUAL RELAXED CLOTHES WORK BEST OUTDOORS
Save your dresses, heels and suits and ties for the office. Comfortable clothes for kids is essential. Slacks are generally better for women as they don't restrict the movement of your legs. A pastel cotton dress or wrap works great at the beach, and also Capri pants.
HIGH KEY PHOTOS AT THE BEACH
High key meaning everything in the photo is essentially light colored. High key is great for blondes or redheads with light skin and eyes, but has also proven effective with brunettes as well. Beach clothes should be light or pastel in shades of yellow, blue, pink, purple. Light colored sandals or sneakers that are very clean should be considered. Wear shorts, slacks, jeans that are light in color, also short sleeve tops, tanks, and long sleeve choices are great. No prints or loud designs please. Plain is best. Avoid clothing with company logos if possible. Consider a light cotton beach dress or wrap. Bring a comb, brush, wear makeup and also bring a mirror for touch ups. Don't forget your sun lotion, red noses are out. A sweater, jacket and towel should be brought to keep you warm. Bring a bottle of water, a piece of fruit and extra money for food, toll booths, and state park fees. Gail stays out until last lightl Don't forget your favorite beach chair and a radio or boom box. Bring a road map if you are unfamiliar with the beaches in NH and Northern Mass. A full tank of gas is mandatory. We depart from Gail's Hollis Studio.
LOW KEY AROUND HOLLIS AND SOUHEGAN VALLEY
Low key meaning everything in the photo is essentially dark except for your facial skin tones. Casual clothes again are best. Wear medium tones of royal or cornflower blue, medium purple, rose pink, dusty orange (not too bright), mauve, from the waist up. Dark colors from the waist down including socks and shoes are best. Brown, gray, black, navy are good choices. Long sleeves are better than short sleeves. Avoid red, white, green and yellow. Avoid darker colors on top and lighter colors from the waist down.
GUYS
A clean shave is essential before your session with us. Avoid baggy clothing and a white t shirt that's visible under an outer shirt. Clothes should be cleaned and pressed. Hair looks best a bit longer rather than the Michael Jordan look.
GIRLS
Avoid excessive makeup and pink lip stick and blue eye shadow if possible. Mascara, lip color, and cheek color should be applied before your session with us. Your hair should be as you normally wear it, or changed for a different look if desired. Too tight clothing is a big problem! Avoid eye liner and a bit of jewelry is great!
EYEGLASSES
Have to wear eyeglasses and not contacts? We can remove your eyeglass glare at additional expense. Free estimates.
SKIN
Blemishes? Don't worry. We'll remove them free of charge on all enhanced print prices. This is done automatically with grads.
CHILDREN:
Osh Kosh are terrific. Comfortable clothes that don't bunch up are good. See above for colors. Avoid white socks, shoes and tights unless at the beach. Make sure they have a nap before you're arrival! Bring a favorite teddy bear or something of importance to them.
