Visual design is composed of seven different elements. They are: line, direction, shape, size, texture, value and color. Color is my favorite element. Color theory is based on three primary colors, red, blue and yellow. Complimentary colors are two colors that are opposite on the color spectrum. Green and red are opposites as well as blue and yellow/gold. When these colors are balanced, color harmony occurs. Simultaneous contrast occurs when a neutral or impure color is placed next to a pure color. Then that impure color may take on some of the characteristics of that pure color.

I use color each and every day of my personal and professional life. I use color to decorate my home, choose my wardrobe, I even use my color background to choose my hair color, the secret is out. I employ color in my professional life to design your photos in my head and in my viewfinder. My favorite color is orange, the color of the rising and setting sun. But that doesn’t mean I look wonderful in orange. I think I look better in shades or hues of lilac and also shades of cream and off white. Some folks choose their favorite colors for their photo shoot with me, not realizing those colors may not do them justice.
